Speed Training
- May 5th, 2010
Dynamic Athletic Training or Speed training is made up of various drills that incorporate an athletes Balance, Flexibility, Cardio, Core, and Strength. Almost any sport can benefit from a combination of Speed and endurance. Most athletes these days spend most of their time training endurance and strength and leave out the Speed and acceleration training. Speed training is a great way to increase your performance to the next level. Learn the proper running mechanics that will increase your 60 or 40 time with 80+ speed drills. Multi-Sprint Sports such as Basketball, Soccer, Baseball, Football, Lacrosse, and Tennis don’t rely solely on absolute speed, but more on speed off the mark (short bursts), acceleration and agility. That being said, you can’t run at your absolute speed without learning the proper way to accelerate. An obvious example is the 100meter sprinter compared to a soccer player. The sprinters speed training program will focus predominantly on acceleration and maximal velocity in a straight line, whereas the soccer player rarely, if ever, reaches top speed. He or she will benefit from greater emphasis on agility training.
The Speed Program that I have put together is the same program I worked on to achieve a 60 time of 6.62 and a 40 time of 4.51 while I was in high school and kept through college. We will do ladder drills, cone drills, core work, acceleration work and much more that will work with your balance, strength and concentration. Each week will consist of new drills strategically planned to increase your fast twitch muscles and allow your muscles to recover from previous workouts. The recommended program with max results is done at least twice a week.
